What happens with the funds we raise?

The Parent Teachers Association (PTA) raises funds for the school via activities such as the School Summer Fair, the Christmas Bazaar, discos for the children and other events.

Here are some news items that help explain how the funds you help raise are spent on activities and equipment for the benefit of the school and the children.

If you shop online, please remember to shop via www.thegivingmachine.co.uk and choose Great Meols Primary PTA as your beneficiary. The Giving Machine donates money to us for everything that you buy, without costing you a penny.

Cars and Films
It was lovely to see all the kids snuggled in their onesies enjoying the film back in February. A good time was had by all and we hope to repeat the event in the future.

The Scalextric evening earlier this month was packed with fun and good-natured competition and the pies were pretty fantastic too! Congratulations to all the winners on the evening and thanks to Wirral Slotcar Racing for bringing their track for us to play on. Again, we hope to run a similar event next year.
A big thank-you to all those who helped out with these new events – we couldn’t do it without you.

ART COMPETITION

We are having a competition for the children to design a PTA Logo. The winning logo will be included on the top of all correspondence, on posters and information which goes out from the PTA. Look out for details coming home in the book bags this week and we hope all our budding artists, marketers and graphic designers will have fun with this over the February half term.

BEDDING PLANT SALE
Spades at the ready, get the children all covered in soil and green fingers. We are going to be selling bedding plants which will be available for collection in May.

Again watch out in the book bags before the half term for the pre-order forms. Trays of stunning Geraniums, Marigolds and other delightful bedding plants will be available from collection at school.

New PTA Website
We are excited to announce that we are introducing a great new way for our parents and teachers to communicate about fundraising and social events at our school. PTAsocial is a website that strengthens and grows our school community. It allows you to stay up to speed with the latest news, and can be viewed from your smartphone, tablet or home computer. It gives you control over what emails you receive, and protects your privacy.

It’s a simple way to get in touch with other parents, and plan stuff together. It's easy for you to RSVP to PTA events, or offer to help just a little, and make a big difference together. You can get involved as much or as little as you want, it’s up to you -- but you’re invited!

A boozy do!
Thanks to everyone who came along to the wine tasting last week which proved to be a relaxed and fun evening for all. Thanks to Sara and Alex from Majestic Wine we even got to learn a few things too and I’m sure a few of us would still be able to spot a Vinho Verde from a Pecorino! On top of all that we helped raise £180 for the school so good stuff all round.

Epic Fundraising!
Last year was a particularly successful year for fundraising with a very impressive £11,500 raised to benefit our children’s education. The year’s big project was a revamp of the library, to which we have already donated £2500. I’m sure you’ll have seen the lovely new books coming home and those who help in the library report that the children are really enjoying choosing from the new stock. Following the success of the summer fair, we have promised a further £2000 towards the purchase of even more books in September. Additionally, last term we were able to fund the dance workshops that all the pupils took part in during Arts Week, a drama workshop for Year 2 and props for the Girl in the Mirror production.

Christmas Decorations
This year we will be running the Christmas decoration competition again. The wooden Christmas decorations will be on sale after school at the gate (or in reception if raining) for 50p each from Thursday 12th December. The children can decorate them in any way they choose. To be sure to be in with a chance of winning please return the finished decoration to school, clearly labelled with their name and class, by Monday 23rd November. All entries will be hung on the school Christmas tree in the hall and the winners will receive a prize. The decorations will be returned to the children before they break up for Christmas.

Christmas Cards
We are running a project this term (supporting the national curriculum) where each pupil will create a piece of Christmas art. The resulting masterpieces will then be available for parents to purchase as high quality greetings cards, gift labels, mugs and tea towels. We can’t wait to see what the children come up with and every purchase made will help raise money for our school. Look out for the sample cards coming home in the next week.
